Anne de Saeger, Beach Scene, Oil Painting on Board, midcentury
A midcentury oil painting on wood panel by Belgian painter Anne de Saeger, depicting an evocative beach scene with children playing in the water and adults gathering on the sand. Cast in a late afternoon sun, it showcases a gorgeously warm palette of colours, with the cool whites of the water and colourful clothes of the characters set against the camaieu of ochres of the sand and sky.
The imaginative Belle Époque attire of the characters creates a nostalgic atmosphere, rendered in impressionist brushstrokes, where the movement of the clouds echoes those of the waves and flowing draperies. This serene work is signed by the artist and mounted in a bespoke black and gold frame.
